Monthly Duke-UNC Conference

These conferences are held twice a month in which the best teaching cases seen at Duke and UNC each month are presented by residents. All residents and faculty from both training programs, in addition to local dermatologists, regularly attend. They serve as a venue for visiting professors twice annually as well.

Visiting Professors

Each year two or three visiting professors of national and international reputation are chosen by the residents and invited for special two day courses. Work schedules are interrupted so that maximum attendance can be achieved. Visiting professors' interaction with residents is maximized with meals, lectures, rounds and Duke-UNC conferences.

Other Educational Opportunities

Second and third year residents attend the annual meeting of The American Academy of Dermatology. First and third year residents attend the annual Southeastern Consortium Dermatology meeting. First year residents attend the annual meeting of the Society for Investigative Dermatology. All residents are encouraged to present papers at specialty meetings within dermatology such as dermatology surgery, dermatopathology, and pediatric dermatology. The department supports residents' attendance at these meetings with approval from the Department Chair.
